By adding 40 Volvo FM Electric trucks to its German fleet, DB Schenker is advancing its commitment to a sustainable future in the logistics sector.

These 20-ton electric trucks, equipped for trailer operations, are well-suited for both urban and regional transport. Starting in December 2024, the new vehicles will be deployed across Germany.

In its pursuit of sustainable logistics, DB Schenker continues to invest in innovative, low-emission solutions for land, air, and sea freight to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly supply chains and to support customers in achieving their sustainability objectives.

In addition, the Volvo FM Electric plays a key role in reducing CO₂ emissions in road transport, offering a quieter and cleaner alternative to traditional combustion engines. These attributes make it particularly suitable for urban environments.

Cyrille Bonjean, Executive Vice President of Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe, stated: “By deploying an additional 40 electric Volvos for last-mile delivery, DB Schenker underlines its commitment to leading the transition to sustainable drive systems and strengthens its partnership with Volvo Trucks.”

The Volvo FM Electric delivers up to 490 kW of power, ensuring robust and smooth driving performance even when handling heavy loads. Its practical advantages include a range and adaptability: a single battery charge enables up to 300 kilometers of travel, making it an excellent choice for diverse tasks in shipment collection and delivery within DB Schenker’s groupage network.

Ralf Többe, Head of Land Transport Cluster DE/CH, commented: “Integrating 40 Volvo FM Electric trucks to our fleet, we at DB Schenker are making a strong statement towards a sustainable future for logistics in Germany. We are demonstrating that with a willingness to invest and expertise, low-emission logistics solutions are already possible on a larger scale today.”

With the introduction of the Volvo FM Electric, DB Schenker is deploying electric trucks with trailer capability for the first time in Germany’s last-mile delivery operations. This innovation allows for the replacement of diesel-powered vehicles with trailers, significantly expanding the applications of electric trucks.

Fast-charging technology further enhances operational flexibility, with charging times of approximately 9.5 hours using alternating current and just 2.5 hours with direct current.

For drivers, the Volvo FM Electric offers top-tier safety and comfort features. Its spacious cabin is designed to support health and comfort, creating an ergonomic workplace equipped with the latest safety systems. Driver feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the vehicle’s superior standards.
