Daehan Shipbuilding

Daehan Shipbuilding has signed a new contract valued at approximately KRW 330 billion to construct two 8,800 TEU container ships, marking another major milestone in its growing mid-sized shipbuilding portfolio. The agreement follows a series of recent orders, including eight Suezmax crude oil carriers in September, solidifying the company’s strong momentum in the global market.

The deal, signed on October 14 with a Panama-based shipping company, represents Daehan Shipbuilding’s first container ship contract with a client from that region — expanding its reach beyond its traditional customer base in Europe and Oceania.

Since entering the container ship market in 2022, Daehan Shipbuilding has delivered two 1,000 TEU and four 8,000 TEU vessels, demonstrating its proven capability in design, quality, and timely delivery.

The newly ordered vessels will be eco-friendly ships compliant with the latest IMO Tier III and EEDI Phase 3 standards, featuring scrubber systems to reduce sulfur oxide emissions. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in March 2028.

With this latest deal, the shipbuilder has now secured 10 vessel orders in just one month, reinforcing its strong position in the global mid-size segment.

A Daehan Shipbuilding official commented,

“Building upon our solid order base in the tanker segment, we have proven our technological capabilities and reliability in the container ship market as well. This contract marks an important milestone in our ship-type diversification strategy.”

The company added that the new client partnership underscores the success of its ongoing customer diversification efforts and continued competitiveness in the global shipbuilding industry.
