On 30 November, CHIMBUSCO Jiangsu reached a significant milestone by successfully refuelling the new 1,300 TEU dual-fuel methanol-powered container ship, NCL VESTLAND, with 79.5 tons of methanol at Sanfu Shipbuilding in Taizhou, China.
This operation marked the company’s first onshore marine methanol fuel supply.
The mobile methanol filling skid, developed in collaboration with COSCO (Lianyungang) Liquid Loading & Unloading Equipment, was used for the refuelling process. The entire vehicle-to-ship methanol filling operation was completed successfully in 2.5 hours.
To ensure the task went smoothly, CHIMBUSCO Jiangsu held multiple coordination meetings covering the refuelling process, safety protocols, and emergency response plans. A comprehensive methanol refuelling operation guide was also created.
The mobile methanol filling skid, powered by a pump, facilitates simultaneous unloading and refuelling operations. It consists of several integrated functional modules that ensure a safe and efficient transfer of methanol fuel from tankers to the ship’s fuel bunker, allowing for seamless and intelligent management.
The system is flexible, requires a low initial investment, and offers a rapid bunkering rate of 180 cubic meters per hour. It serves as an ideal solution for methanol bunkering, especially during the transition period before the widespread use of methanol bunkering vessels.
Additionally, the mobile skid provides support for shipyards, allowing them to test new vessels and meet bunkering needs during construction.
