CORE POWER has welcomed a new U.S.-UK agreement to speed up nuclear reactor licensing and boost maritime decarbonization efforts.
The two governments announced plans to cut reactor licensing times from up to four years to just two. They also pledged closer cooperation on site licensing for new projects.
At the same time, the UK committed £448 million to reduce emissions from domestic shipping.
CORE POWER CEO Mikal Bøe said the announcements are “a welcome boost” for innovators on both sides of the Atlantic. He urged the UK Government to ensure maritime nuclear projects are included in decarbonization plans.
CORE POWER develops floating nuclear power plants and civilian nuclear-powered cargo ships. The company says these solutions can deliver zero-emission shipping, boost energy security, and create high-value jobs in coastal regions.
