Contecon Manzanillo and operator of the Second Specialized Container Terminal at the Port of Manzanillo, has expanded its equipment fleet with the arrival of two quay cranes and four hybrid rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes.

The new equipment was delivered on May 11 as part of CMSA’s ongoing terminal expansion program.

This upgrade enhances CMSA’s ability to efficiently handle larger ships and aligns with its objective to exceed two million TEUs in annual throughput.

The investment is a strategic move to strengthen Mexico’s position in global trade and solidify the Port of Manzanillo as a national leader in container handling.

Once fully operational, the new cranes will allow the terminal to handle three 400-meter vessels simultaneously, significantly boosting operational standards.

The terminal expansion also includes the development of a new berth capable of handling vessels with drafts of up to 17 meters, enabling CMSA to accommodate megaships with capacities of up to 24,000 TEUs.

CMSA reported a 14% increase in throughput in 2024, moving 1.5 million TEUs and contributing to regional and national economic growth.

Total investments between 2023 and 2026 are expected to exceed USD 300 million, reinforcing CMSA’s commitment to supporting larger vessels and ensuring efficient access to global shipping networks.
