CMA CGM has announced that the passage of several storms from the Atlantic into European waters in recent and upcoming days may cause disruptions across the ports in North Europe.

“High winds and a large swell will see passages across the Bay of Biscay disrupted until Friday January 31 and there are currently weather warnings in place or expected for the main European ports,” said the French ocean carrier in its statement.

The weather warnings:

  • Le Havre: high winds expected January 28-30 followed by a 48-hour strike on January 30 & 31
  • Dunkerque: high winds expected January 28/29
  • Antwerp: gusty winds expected January 28/29
  • Rotterdam: gusty winds expected January 28/29
  • Southampton: wind warnings in place until January 30 (17:00)
  • Felixstowe: wind warnings for January 28/29
  • Hamburg: multiple wind warnings between January 28-31 (06:00)

CMA CGM noted that although not all warnings will lead to operational stoppages, they indicate a potential for significant disruptions to shipping schedules in the coming days.

“Where required, contingency plans will be enacted to minimise overall disruption to the CMA CGM network and its customers’ valuable cargo,” stated the company. “Changes to planned transport routings will be communicated to affected customers directly.”
