Climeon has secured an order from Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding for its HeatPower 300 system. The system will be installed on a 13,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship, scheduled for delivery in 2027.
This is the first vessel in a new series for a major Asian shipowner. The ships are designed with multiple energy-saving features, and HeatPower will help cut fuel use and boost efficiency.
“This order is the result of a long-term collaboration with the shipyard and the owner,” said Fredrik Thoren, EVP and Head of Marine at Climeon. “We showed how HeatPower delivers real efficiency gains, and we look forward to supporting these partners on their decarbonization journey.”
Climeon’s HeatPower 300 uses Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology to turn low-temperature engine waste heat into clean electricity. This enables more continuous power generation, saving fuel and helping owners comply with EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime, and IMO rules.
Climeon says the deal shows the growing importance of ORC-based waste heat recovery in newbuild projects. “Securing this order in China, the world’s largest shipbuilding nation, highlights the value of our technology and our position in global shipping,” said Climeon CEO Lena Sundquist.
