Mexican vessel operator Chomex Marino has ordered two offshore support tugs from Dutch shipbuilder Damen, which will support Woodside’s projects in Mexico.
The order came after Chomex Marino won a Woodside tender for a 15-year time charter contract for multipurpose offshore support vessels in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
The Mexican firm, a long-time Damen partner, submitted the design for the Damen Offshore Support Tugs (OST) 120. The two vessels will be built at the Albwardy Damen shipyard in the United Arab Emirates.
The new vessels will be 67 metres in length, have a beam of 18 metres, a bollard pull of 120 tonnes ahead and astern and 250 sq m of free deck space.
“With a 100% Mexican crew onboard these vessels, we look forward to seeing our new Damen OST 120 vessels in operation, making a positive impact on the Mexican maritime industry,” said Fausto Correa, general manager of Chomex Marino.
In Mexico, Woodside is developing the Trion project in partnership with state-owned firm Pemex, with first production targeted for 2028.
