CHIMBUSCO Completes First LNG Refueling Service in Europe
China Marine Bunker (PetroChina) (CHIMBUSCO), recently ranked third globally in bunkering with 22.2 million tons in 2023, announced its entry into the European market at the 7th International Petroleum and Gas Enterprises Conference (IPEC 2024). The company successfully conducted its inaugural LNG bunkering operation in Europe at the Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium. The operation involved supplying LNG fuel to the "Peony Leader," an LNG dual-fuel car carrier docked at the terminal. This milestone signifies CHIMBUSCO's official launch of its green energy services in international markets.
The "Peony Leader," a new generation large green car carrier from COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, features 12 vehicle decks and is powered by LNG dual fuel. The vessel began its maiden European voyage in early September after being loaded at a domestic shipyard.
In recent years, CHIMBUSCO has expanded its focus beyond traditional fuel supply to include alternative ship fuel markets. This European debut follows earlier successes, including its first LNG refueling operation for the "Hangli 868" in inland waterway shipping on November 10, 2023, and the fueling of the "Yuan Rui Yang," the world's first LNG dual-fuel ultra-large crude oil tanker, on its maiden voyage in March 2022.
