Cavotec has successfully commissioned three MoorMaster automated mooring systems at the Iroquois Lock, officially handed over to the Saint Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) on June 30, 2025.
The installation brings Cavotec closer to equipping nearly all locks along the St. Lawrence Seaway, with only Lock 8 in the Welland Canal scheduled for 2026.
The new systems enhance operations by:
-
Eliminating traditional mooring lines, improving crew safety
-
Using large vacuum pads for efficient vessel positioning
- Reducing onboard power consumption during lockage.
“We’re proud to see the latest MoorMaster systems fully operational in Canada,” said Nicklas Vedin, Head of Ports & Maritime Division, Cavotec. “This milestone brings us closer to supporting the entire Seaway with automated mooring, improving performance and sustainability.”
With the Iroquois project completed, 51 MoorMaster units are now operational across the Seaway.
