C.H. Robinson has launched a new Asset Management System (AMS) within its Drop Trailer Plus™ program, giving shippers greater control, visibility, and efficiency.

Firstly, the system uses GPS tracking and real-time operational data to turn thousands of trailers into connected, intelligent assets. Linked with the company’s AI-driven Navisphere™ platform, AMS helps customers make faster and more cost-efficient decisions.

In addition, with more than 10,000 trailers in circulation daily and 800,000 annual shipments, C.H. Robinson operates one of the largest drop trailer programs in the U.S. The new system adds data-driven insights and end-to-end visibility unmatched in the market.

“The Drop Trailer Plus AMS is a game-changer,” said Adam McDonough, Vice President of Truckload at C.H. Robinson. “Shippers can now see every trailer in real time—whether it’s moving or at rest—and eliminate wasted time searching for equipment.”

Also, traditional drop trailer programs often rely on manual tracking and limited data. AMS replaces that with an integrated, automated platform combining GPS, telematics, and geofencing to monitor every trailer across Robinson’s fleet and its contract carriers.

Key benefits include:

  • Higher efficiency: Optimized routing and utilization through North America’s largest transport network.

  • Improved uptime: Locate the right trailer—dry van, refrigerated, or flatbed—when you need it.

  • Real-time visibility: GPS updates every five seconds with live ETAs.

  • Faster issue resolution: Automated alerts for late arrivals, dwell breaches, or idle trailers.

  • Enhanced security: Real-time tracking reduces theft and fraud risk.

  • Performance analytics: Scorecards by lane, site, or carrier with KPIs on dwell and utilization.

“Today’s supply chains demand flexibility and speed,” said Michael Castagnetto, President of North American Surface Transportation. “Drop Trailer Plus powered by AMS gives customers capacity, clarity, and control in one platform.”

Lastly, the new AMS is already active across C.H. Robinson’s own trailer pool and several contract carrier fleets, with further expansion planned through 2026.
