The standout deal in the capesize segment this week has come from CMB.TECH’s dry bulk arm, Bocimar, which is in the process of offloading three newcastlemax bulk carriers.
Brokers tell Splash that the Belgian owner has struck an agreement linking Asyad Shipping — the state-backed Omani giant formerly known as Oman Shipping – to the deal. The transaction almost doubles Asyad’s exposure to the cape segment, where it has four ships. The vessels, all Japanese-built sisters, were built between 2015 and 2016 at Imabari Shipbuilding. The 207,000 dwt bulkers are named Mineral Utamaro, Mineral Hokusai, and Mineral Edo. The price tag attached to the deal is $165m.
Asyad’s expansion streak is not limited to bulkers. The cash-rich carrier has also been making waves in the tanker market, taking delivery this week of the Awabi (ex-Landbridge Wisdom), the second of two Landbridge VLCCs it acquired in May for $206m.
