BIMCO and WISTA International (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration on workforce sustainability and gender inclusion across the global maritime industry.
The agreement was signed during Maritime Cyprus by David Loosley, Secretary General and CEO of BIMCO, and Elpi Petraki, President of WISTA International. It commits both organisations to work together on creating safe, fair, and inclusive working conditions as the industry transitions toward new fuels, automation, and digitalisation.
“This partnership reinforces our shared goal of building a resilient and inclusive maritime workforce,” said Loosley. “Ensuring the industry remains an attractive and sustainable career choice is critical for the future.”
The MoU outlines cooperation in research, information sharing, and joint training initiatives aimed at developing skills, promoting gender diversity, and addressing key challenges facing the sector.
Petraki added: “Together, we aim to empower professionals—especially women—to thrive in an evolving global maritime landscape.”
