China has sanctioned five American subsidiaries of Hanwha Ocean, the South Korean shipbuilder formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, claiming the company was involved in the US probe into the Chinese shipping industry.
The sanctioned subsidiaries include Hanwha Shipping LLC, Hanwha Philly Shipyard, Hanwha Ocean USA International LLC, Hanwha Shipping Holdings LLC, and HS USA Holdings Corp, according to a statement from China’s Commerce Ministry on Tuesday, the day that new China port fees aimed at American-linked tonnage come into effect.
“Hanwha’s US-based subsidiaries have assisted and supported the US government in conducting the 301 investigation and imposing measures against China’s maritime, logistics and shipbuilding industries. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition,” a spokesperson of China’s commerce ministry said on Tuesday.
