Bangladesh Shipping Corporation bags its first resales

State-run Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has clinched its first resale acquisitions, polishing the fleet’s average age with a $76.7m purchase of two ultramax bulkers.
Brokers have identified the ships as two 63,700 dwt units built at Jingjiang Nanyang Shipbuilding, a yard that has delivered only three sister ships in this segment, all of which will be delivered within this year.
Although the sale was concluded some time ago through a tender, details have remained scarce until now. One vessel, the Banglar Progoti (ex-XCL Gemini), has just been delivered, while the second ship — still listed under its hull number — is registered to a single-purpose Hong Kong company, Peony Shipping. Another database links the ship to Jiangsu Steamship. Banglar Progoti was also registered here.
The Dhaka-listed carrier is flush with cash after record earnings and is preparing to add more bulkers under a government-backed fleet renewal plan that could lift its fleet tally to 10 ships by mid-2026.
Once operating more than 40 vessels at its peak, BSC’s fleet has dwindled to five dry bulkers and three tankers.
