Bahri, Saudi Arabia’s national shipping and logistics company, has been named a strategic partner of the WAVE initiative, a collective action platform focused on achieving ocean regeneration within a single human generation.

Launched in October 2023 under the aegis of the FII Institute, the WAVE initiative was founded by Her Royal Highness Princess Reema Bint Bandar Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the United States, in partnership with the Kingdom’s Ministry of Energy. The platform brings together public and private stakeholders to advance efforts aimed at protecting marine ecosystems, reducing pollution and promoting the sustainable use of oceans.

Bahri said its participation aligns closely with the company’s long-term environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy and its commitment to responsible maritime growth. The partnership also supports Saudi Arabia’s broader sustainability agenda, including Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI), particularly the “30×30” target to protect 30% of the Kingdom’s marine and terrestrial areas by 2030.

By joining WAVE, Bahri reinforces its role as a key enabler of sustainable shipping and logistics, while contributing to national and global efforts to restore ocean health.

“I am proud to champion the mission of the WAVE initiative, which seeks to advance a more responsible and globally coordinated approach to restoring the health of our oceans,” said Princess Reema Bint Bandar Al Saud, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United States and Founder of the WAVE Initiative. “Our oceans form the foundation of ecological stability and economic resilience worldwide, and they remain an essential asset for the future of humanity. The participation of strategic partners such as Bahri strengthens our collective ability to accelerate impactful scientific and practical efforts, drive innovation, and enable solutions that support a more balanced and sustainable future for generations to come.”

Eng. Ahmed Ali Alsubaey, CEO, Bahri, said the partnership represents a significant milestone in the company’s sustainability journey. “By supporting this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding marine ecosystems and advancing the Kingdom’s leadership in sustainable maritime development,” he said. “This partnership represents a meaningful step in our efforts to strengthen ocean stewardship and collaborate with global partners to accelerate impactful scientific and operational solutions.”

As a WAVE partner, Bahri will contribute to the practical implementation of ocean regeneration goals through collaboration, innovation and responsible maritime practices. The company said it will continue to leverage digital transformation, cleaner operations and sustainability-driven solutions to enhance global supply chains while supporting a more resilient and sustainable maritime industry.
