Auramarine has signed an agreement to deliver its methanol fuel supply system for two of Terntank’s next-generation hybrid oil and chemical tankers.

The vessels, equipped with wind-assisted propulsion and dual-fuel engines capable of operating on marine gas oil, biofuels, and methanol, will be built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou and are scheduled for delivery in January and June 2027.

Auramarine’s methanol systems will be supplied ahead of this timeline, in April and September 2026. This agreement builds on an established partnership between the two companies.

John Bergman, CEO of Auramarine, emphasized the importance of infrastructure in driving the adoption of alternative fuels saying that beyond cost and availability, a key factor in the adoption of future fuels is ensuring the right bunkering and onboard operational infrastructure.

Claes Möller, CEO of Tärntank Ship Management, underlined Terntank’s commitment to sustainability commenting that the project is one of the first of its kind and has required close collaboration with multiple partners.

The hybrid tankers project underscores Terntank’s leadership in green shipping solutions, combining wind-assisted propulsion with alternative fuels to cut emissions and improve efficiency.

Auramarine’s methanol systems will play a central role in enabling the vessels to transition toward low- and zero-carbon operations.

Auramarine will showcase its Methanol Fuel Supply System at the Donsö Shipping Meet in Sweden (1–3 September), where visitors will also have the opportunity to tour the vessel TERN VIK, which is already fitted with the system.
