Aker Solutions and Kongsberg Discovery are partnering to showcase a new drone detection system in Stavanger, aiming to boost security around offshore infrastructure. The system uses Kongsberg’s Drone Detection Radar and marks the start of a broader rollout in the North Sea.
The partnership will begin with a demonstrator at Aker Solutions’ Stavanger site, before expanding offshore with additional camera clusters and underwater sensors. Later phases include integration on supply vessels, control centres, and rigs, with potential expansion to other regions. Aker Solutions will serve as system integrator, with Kongsberg Discovery supplying the technology.
“This collaboration sets a new standard for safety and security at sea,” said Joachim Hovland, Head of Drones and Robotics at Aker Solutions. “By combining our integration expertise with Kongsberg Discovery’s technology, we can enhance situational awareness at critical infrastructure.”
Cato Giil Eliassen, VP Infrastructure at Kongsberg Discovery, highlighted the need for better monitoring of UAV activity. “Recent incidents show drones near critical infrastructure are often undocumented. This system gives operators proper tools to monitor and record both legal and illegal activity.”
