Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has initiated operations at the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT), located at the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka.

The terminal is operated by a consortium of India’s major port operator APSEZ, Sri Lanka’s John Keells Holdings and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, based on a 35-year contract as stated in a recent exchange filing.

The terminal, representing an investment of US$800 million, features a 1,400-meter quay and a depth of 20 meters, which enables it to process approximately 3.2 million containers annually.

The CWIT, with its state-of-the-art infrastructure, is poised to become a regional hub for maritime operations, noted for its efficiency and reliability.

Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, highlighted the project’s potential impact, stating that the CWIT project will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs in Sri Lanka, significantly boosting the island’s economy. He added that it exemplifies the strong, strategic relationship between the two countries and the success possible through visionary public-private partnerships.
