Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) and the Port of Marseille Fos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement strengthens cooperation on trade facilitation, port innovation, and energy transition.
The partnership aims to improve trade links between India and Europe through the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
The two sides will create an IMEC Ports Club. The club will coordinate major ports along the corridor. It will support stronger India–EU trade flows.
The agreement completes the IMEC pathway for India–Europe trade. The recent India–EU Free Trade Agreement has further boosted this route.
The MoU was signed during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron. The signing reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and France.
IMEC was launched at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in 2023. It is a 6,000 km multimodal corridor. It connects India and Europe through shipping routes, rail networks, digital systems, and clean energy links.
On the eastern side, APSEZ operates the ports of Mundra and Hazira. These ports connect South Asia with West Asia. On the western side, Marseille Fos serves as Europe’s main gateway. It adds around 70 million tonnes of capacity.
Marseille Fos is one of Europe’s largest integrated multimodal ports. The partnership creates a structured route for India–EU trade.
The partnership will focus on:
Promoting IMEC as a secure and sustainable trade route.
Running joint campaigns and business events.
Sharing expertise in digital ports, cybersecurity, smart systems, and alternative fuels.
Developing a Mundra–Marseille Fos green maritime corridor.
Establishing an IMEC Ports Club for policy coordination and investment planning.
Ashwani Gupta, CEO of APSEZ, said India has taken a leading role in building the corridor. He said the MoU connects the final European leg. He added that it will strengthen supply chains.
Hervé Martel, CEO of the Port of Marseille Fos, said the corridor has entered a decisive phase. He said both ports will drive a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable trade route between India and Europe.
