AD Ports Group is ready to receive three new state-of-the-art Panamax cranes from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (ZPMC).
These cranes are earmarked for the Group’s new multipurpose cargo terminal in Safaga, Egypt, anticipated to commence operations in the second half of 2026.
AD Ports Group is allocating AE$193 million (US$52 million) to acquire three ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and six hybrid rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for its Noatum Ports – Safaga Terminal.
This follows a contract worth over AE$420 million (US$115 million), awarded last September to ZPMC for six ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 17 hybrid rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for the New East Mole Terminal in Pointe Noire, Republic of the Congo, and Noatum Ports, Luanda Terminal in Angola.
The forthcoming crane delivery marks a significant phase in the final preparations for the Noatum Ports – Safaga Terminal. The terminal will feature advanced facilities and infrastructure capable of handling various types of cargo, including dry bulk, liquid bulk, containerized cargo, and Ro-Ro vehicles. Additional facilities will comprise administration buildings, workshops, warehouses, and authority buildings, supplemented by extensive roads, utilities, and security systems development.
Ahmed Al Mutawa, Regional CEO of AD Ports Group, said that Noatum Ports – Safaga Terminal is set to become a pivotal element in Egypt’s economic growth, providing the Red Sea region with its most modern, efficient terminal.
The project will also include a 48,000 square meter concrete apron, an 80,354 square meter container terminal with essential infrastructure, and roughly 66,360 square meters dedicated to general cargo and break-bulk operations.
