ABS has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS). The partnership aims to promote international standardization of smart ship and shipyard technologies, covering shipbuilding as well as maintenance, repair, and overhaul.

The collaboration will include joint workshops and seminars to share knowledge. Both organizations will work to strengthen global standardization and streamline certification for Korean equipment manufacturers.

The MOU also enables ABS and KATS to create a conformity assessment framework. This framework will help verify that equipment meets international regulations.

John McDonald, ABS President and COO, said: “Open dialogue with our colleagues is key to addressing technical, operational, and regulatory topics. We are excited to work with KATS to improve smart technologies and equipment compliance.”
