Stena Bulk Sells Third LNG Tanker, Denies Exiting LNG Shipping Business
Stena Bulk recently announced the sale of its final LNG tanker, the Stena Blue Sky, to an undisclosed Asian buyer, completing the sale of all three of its LNG vessels. Last month, the company sold the Stena Crystal Sky and Stena Clear Sky to BW LNG. While discussions with potential buyers or co-investors for its Stena Bulk and Stena Power & LNG Solutions unit are ongoing, Erik Hånell, President and CEO of Stena Bulk, clarified that the company is not exiting the LNG business but rather exploring partnerships and potential sales.
Hånell emphasized that Stena Bulk remains active in the LNG sector, managing LPG and LNG ships through a technical management arrangement with Northern Marine Management (NMM), a subsidiary of Stena AB. Stena Bulk is currently seeking partnerships for Stena Power to capitalize on commercial opportunities within the LNG industry.
The company is open to investor partnerships to enhance its position in the LNG market, although retaining the Stena Power & LNG unit for independent exploration is also under consideration. With ongoing discussions with potential partners, Stena Bulk is actively exploring new opportunities in the LNG sector.
The Stena Blue Sky, originally constructed in 2006 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea, has a capacity of 145,000 cubic meters of LNG. Similarly, the Stena Crystal Sky and Stena Clear Sky, built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in 2011, each have a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters.
