CMA CGM Partners with Damen for Efficiency Retrofits on 100 Vessels CMA CGM has partnered with Damen Shipyards Group to enhance the efficiency of its fleet through retrofits across 100 vessels. These upgrades, including bulbous bow installations, propeller upgrades, and other efficiency enhancements, will be conducted at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (DSDu) and Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm).
Scheduled for this year are nine dockings, with five at DSDu and four at DSAm. Among these, three will involve fitting bow bulbs, starting with the liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled containership Arctic. These retrofits, expected to reduce fuel consumption by 5 to 10%, underscore CMA CGM’s commitment to enhancing vessel efficiency.
Additionally, Damen will provide propeller upgrades, nozzle modifications, and silicone paint applications, further improving fuel efficiency by 2 to 5%. Furthermore, three vessels will be equipped for shore power access, aligning with CMA CGM’s sustainability goals.
Freek van den Eijkel, Commercial Manager at DSAm, expressed excitement about the long-term partnership between CMA CGM and Damen, highlighting the superior facilities and accessibility to major shipping routes at DSAm and DSDu.
This initiative is part of CMA CGM’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability. Earlier, the company established a Special Fund for Energies, allocating $1.5 billion over five years to accelerate its energy transition and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
