Deutsche Bahn Initiates Sale Process for DB Schenker
Deutsche Bahn has officially commenced the sale process for its logistics company, DB Schenker. The open and non-discriminatory sale aims to provide evident economic benefits to Deutsche Bahn across all aspects. The global logistics market, with its promising long-term growth prospects, positions DB Schenker as one of the world’s top four logistics firms.
While DB Schenker has significantly contributed to the economic success of the DB Group, the subsidiary requires additional capital and flexibility for its independent growth. The proceeds from the sale will be retained by the DB Group, primarily to reduce debt. This strategic move aligns with Deutsche Bahn’s focus on its core business and the execution of the Strong Rail strategy, accelerating its market emphasis.
Following a resolution by Deutsche Bahn AG’s Supervisory Board, which was assigned to investigate the situation and plan the future sale in December 2022, the decision on DB Schenker’s sale will be based on a subsequent resolution. The ongoing sale process is subject to general capital market developments, with DB Schenker boasting a vast presence with over 1,850 facilities across 130 countries and approximately 76,600 employees.
