The 7.77% increase in import container traffic during January was not enough to offset the 8.61% drop in export TEUs during the first month of the year.

These figures, combined with a 2.98% decrease in empty container management, resulted in a total of 403,730 containers handled during the first month of the year, 3.93% less than in the same month last year.

Something similar has happened with non-containerized cargo: increases in liquid bulk traffic (+17.23%) have not been enough to offset declines in iron and steel (-29.59%), fertilizers (-41.40%), and vehicles and parts (-4.41%).

In the end, between January 1 and 31, 5.77 million tons passed through the docks of Valenciaport, 7.84% less than in January 2025.

The figures provided by the Valencia Port Authority Bulletin show similar imbalances in international traffic observed by country.

Among Valenciaport’s four main partners (China, Italy, the United States, and Turkey), exports to the Asian giant fell by 2.11% in January, while imports grew by 17.55%.

Regarding Italy, both types of trade fell: exports by 26.47% and imports by 7.74%. Sales to the United States fell by 26%, but purchases rose by 76%. While in relation to Turkey, exports to this country rose by 61%, but imports fell by 15%.

The number of ships that worked in January at the docks and terminals of Valenciaport (592 units) was 6.47% higher than those that did so a year ago.
