Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract to deliver a comprehensive deck machinery package for Hana Shipping’s new 127-meter Floating Wind Construction Vessel. The Korean shipowner is building the advanced FWCV for offshore wind operations.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery in July 2027. The project marks the first large FWCV order globally in recent years.

Focal designed the vessel, which will operate at the Ulsan Floating Wind Farm Construction site. The farm is located 70 kilometers off the coast of Ulsan, Korea.

The vessel will support mooring operations, cable laying, and other complex construction activities essential to floating wind projects.

Kongsberg Maritime’s early involvement in the design phase ensured optimal integration of advanced systems. The systems meet demanding requirements for towing, mooring, and installation tasks.

Tore Herstad, Senior Sales Manager for Offshore Support and Construction Units, said the company is bringing decades of anchor handling experience to the emerging floating wind sector. Kongsberg is partnering with Norwegian company IP Huse on the project.

“Being selected to supply a complete AHT system demonstrates how we combine proven technology with innovative solutions,” Herstad said.

The scope includes a state-of-the-art winch package featuring a 500-tonne main towing/AHT winch system with three drums. Secondary winches for rope installation, a rope tensioner system, tugger winches, and an active heave-compensated working winch complete the package. A Towcon X8 control system will manage operations.

Kongsberg Maritime designs and manufactures all winches’ proprietary low-pressure hydraulic motors in Brattvåg, Norway. IP Huse designs and produces the mechanical aspects of the main winches at Harøy, Norway.

The contract introduces two innovative products developed for large anchor handling and mooring installation vessels. The next-generation Shark Jaw system can handle chain sizes up to 220mm. It incorporates remotely adjustable inserts for enhanced safety and operational flexibility.

The new AH100 rail cranes offer increased load capacity and extended reach. They feature dual arms for lifting and precision handling, with interchangeable tooling to support project-specific tasks.
