Hambantota International Port (HIP) has launched its Automated Gate Pass Management System (AGPMS), becoming the first port in Sri Lanka to operate a fully automated, QR-code-based, paperless gate pass system.

The new platform supports HIP’s digital transformation and improves efficiency, security, and access control across port operations.

HIP officially inaugurated the system at the Hambantota Maritime Centre, together with its technology partner, Data Management Services (DMS). Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) CEO Wilson Qu attended as Chief Guest.

AGPMS replaces manual gate passes with a secure QR-based process. It enables faster verification at entry points and reduces processing time, human error, and paperwork.

The system strengthens security, transparency, and traceability. It also improves traffic flow and delivers a simpler, more user-friendly permit process for port customers.

Wilson Qu said the system supports HIP’s long-term smart port vision.
“AGPMS is a key milestone in our journey toward smart port operations. It strengthens security, improves efficiency, and aligns us with global best practices,” he said.

Capt. Miyuru Gunasekara, General Manager of Hambantota International Port Services (HIPS), added that the system allows real-time monitoring and better compliance.
“AGPMS improves gate control, speeds up processing, and enhances safety while giving authorised users a smoother experience,” he said.

AGPMS marks the first phase of HIP’s wider digitalisation program. It positions Hambantota as a future-ready maritime and logistics hub.
