Purus has returned to South Korea for a fresh LNG carrier newbuilding deal, pressing ahead with the expansion of its gas fleet.
Samsung Heavy Industries disclosed in late December an order for two LNG carriers worth about $503m, at the time linked to an undisclosed Oceania-based shipping company. The owner has now been confirmed as Purus.
French containment specialist GTT said it received the order in the fourth quarter of 2025 from Samsung Heavy Industries for the tank design of the two LNG carriers on behalf of Purus.
GTT will supply the cryogenic tank design for the vessels, each with a capacity of 174,000 cu m. The ships will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system. Delivery of the two LNG carriers is scheduled between 2028 and 2029.
Purus currently manages a fleet of 19 low-carbon gas carriers trading LNG, ammonia, LPG and ethane. The Samsung order follows a busy year for the owner. Earlier this summer, Purus confirmed a contract for a single 180,000 cu m LNG carrier at Hyundai Heavy Industries, valued at around $262m and due for delivery in December 2027.
In October, the company also entered the LNG bunker vessel segment, placing an order for two 18,900 cu m units at China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering. Those vessels are slated for delivery in 2028 and will be chartered to Shell.
