Maersk has announced an increase in its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on shipments from Far East Asia to East Africa.

The revised surcharge will apply to cargo moving from China and Hong Kong to Kenya and Dar es Salaam. It will take effect from January 12, 2026.

For shipments to Kenya, the PSS is set at USD 700 for 20-foot dry and reefer containers. The charge rises to USD 1,200 for all 40-foot and 45-foot containers. For Dar es Salaam, the surcharge will be USD 600 for 20-foot containers and USD 1,200 for 40-foot and 45-foot units.

Maersk said the revision supports the continued delivery of its global services during the peak season.

The updated surcharge applies to both spot and non-spot bookings, based on the applicable price calculation date or vessel departure date, depending on booking type.

Maersk added that the PSS will apply in addition to other local and contingency surcharges and will remain in force until further notice.
