DHL Global Forwarding and Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) have signed a new framework agreement to strengthen their long-term collaboration on reducing emissions in air freight.

The agreement builds on the partners’ cooperation launched in 2022 and introduces a stronger focus on emission reduction rights. A key element is the development of market-ready book-and-claim models to support scalable and transparent CO₂e reductions across the industry.

Under the new framework, DHL has signed a work order covering 35,000 metric tons of well-to-wheel CO₂e emission reduction rights. The approach goes beyond traditional sustainable aviation fuel procurement, shifting toward a structured and long-term model that accelerates SAF adoption and digital verification.

DHL said the agreement provides predictability, scalability, and transparency—critical factors for sustainable aviation fuels to deliver meaningful impact. AFKLMP has been one of DHL’s leading carrier partners for the past five years and remains a top performer in DHL’s GoGreen Carrier Evaluation Program.

Both companies will continue to collaborate on industry initiatives aimed at expanding access to emission reductions, even where sustainable fuels are not yet physically available on specific trade lanes.

The partnership supports DHL Group’s goal of increasing sustainable aviation fuel use to 30% by 2030 and helps lay the groundwork for standardized, globally applicable market mechanisms for emission reduction in air freight.
