Greek tanker newcomer Venergy Maritime has moved to diversify its fleet, placing its first order in the containership segment after an active year in tanker newbuildings.
The Piraeus-based owner, led by Vyron Vasileiadis, has signed up for up to four 1,900 teu feeder container vessels at CSSC’s Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. The deal covers two firm ships plus two options, with financial terms and delivery dates yet to be disclosed.
The ships will be of Huangpu Wenchong’s Honghu-class design and mark Venergy’s first step outside the tanker market since the company was founded in 2021.
Venergy has so far focused on MR product tankers. It currently operates three modern MRs and is progressing with a four-ship MR newbuilding programme at South Korea’s K Shipbuilding, with deliveries running through to 2027.
The company also recently moved up the size range, with two 115,000 dwt scrubber-fitted aframax/LR2 tankers at China’s New Times Shipbuilding. Those vessels are slated for delivery in 2029.
Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Trading have confirmed the 2+2 feeder order, which follows a similar contract signed with Greece’s Latsco Shipping in July, with market sources placing the price at about $31m per vessel.
Venergy Maritime operates under the wider Vasileiadis Group of companies (V Group), which has a diversified presence across port reception facilities, waste management, renewable energy and alternative fuels. With the feeder order, Venergy adds a second shipping segment to its platform, broadening its fleet mix as its tanker programme continues to take shape.
