Corvus Energy has launched Blue Whale NxtGen, its newest marine energy storage system. The company says the system delivers higher energy density, longer life, and lower lifecycle costs for vessel operators.
The system targets ships that require high energy content and compact design. Corvus said the product also improves safety, performance, and digital services while maintaining modularity and scalability.
Built for Long Life and Performance
Blue Whale NxtGen uses Corvus’ NxtGen architecture. The design integrates modular construction with advanced battery management and analytics.
The system uses cobalt-free LFP cells. Corvus said the batteries can operate for up to 15 years. This allows shipowners to reduce capital costs and meet ESG targets.
The system also supports a 1C charge and discharge rate. This makes it suitable for both energy storage and power-intensive operations.
Lower Cost and Global Supply Chain
Corvus said the new platform marks a shift in its manufacturing strategy. The company is introducing contract manufacturing and expanding sourcing in China. It also plans to diversify suppliers worldwide.
CEO Fredrik Witte said the goal is to reduce cost without compromising quality or safety. He added that the new design allows cell replacement without changing the system structure.
Focus on Business Value and Sustainability
Corvus said customers want both sustainability and financial returns. Blue Whale NxtGen aims to deliver both through longer service life, easier installation, and stronger global support.
Ole Jacob Irgens, Head of Sales EMEA and Asia, said the system will help reduce lifecycle costs and support compliance with future regulations. He added that improved supply chains will also help shipyards lower installation and logistics costs.
Advanced Management and Cybersecurity
The system features Corvus’ fourth-generation battery management system. It includes data ownership control and enhanced cybersecurity standards.
Corvus plans to deliver the first projects in the fourth quarter of 2026.
