Peel Ports Group has become the first UK port operator to join the Construction Leadership Council’s Co2nstructZero programme. The move strengthens the Group’s commitment to decarbonising the construction industry.

Co2nstructZero supports the Government’s 10-point plan for a Green Industrial Revolution. The framework unites leading businesses to accelerate progress toward the 2050 decarbonisation target. It encourages collaboration to create genuinely greener operations.

Peel Ports aims to cut emissions by promoting sustainable supply chain practices, including importing materials closer to their end destinations. The Group is also running its Sustainable Construction Partner programme, which connects materials and logistics suppliers with end users. Founding partners include Ecocem, Hercules, Bretts, Holcim, Mibau Stema, and Peel Ports customers.

The programme enables the development of construction consolidation hubs at every Peel Ports location in the UK. Pilot hubs at the Port of London Medway and Port of East Anglia in Great Yarmouth are already supporting major projects like Sizewell C, the Lower Thames Crossing, and Heathrow Airport expansion.

By moving materials closer to points of use and shifting freight to rail or water, Peel Ports helps reduce carbon emissions and transport costs.

David Huck, Chief Operations Officer at Peel Ports Group, said: “Decarbonisation deadlines are approaching, and demand for greener construction is rising. The construction industry has cut building emissions, but we can reduce carbon further through smarter sourcing and logistics. Our ports play a key role in the supply chain, and joining Co2nstructZero allows us to lead with greener logistics. This approach will lower costs and emissions while supporting critical infrastructure projects.”
