Norway’s Aasen Shipping has expanded its orderbook once again, returning to Royal Bodewes for a sixth hybrid-powered, methanol-ready self-discharging bulk carrier.
The Mosterhamn-based owner has signed up for another 119.95 m vessel at the Dutch yard, following its series of five 9,400 dwt battery-hybrid self-dischargers ordered across 2020–2023. Delivery of the latest newbuild is set for late 2027.
The vessel will follow the design of the earlier series, featuring a large battery pack enabling peak-shaving for both the main and auxiliary engines, as well as fully electric cargo-handling gear. The ship will be capable of self-loading and self-discharging with zero emissions in ports equipped with shore power and will be built methanol-ready for future conversion.
Aasen, founded in 1981 and still family-owned, operates a fleet of around 15 self-dischargers between 6,000 dwt and 9,500 dwt.
