Kongsberg Maritime will supply Med Marine with US-series azimuth thrusters and electric and hydraulic towing winches for nine new tug designs, including the all-electric ‘VoltRA’ series built at Med Marine’s Ereğli Shipyard.

The contract covers eight shipsets of US255 thrusters for RAmparts 2500-W and RAstar 3200-W tugs, plus a US205 thruster for the VoltRA. It also includes five shipsets of new electric towing winches and four hydraulic winches. The electric winches improve efficiency and reduce emissions compared with conventional systems.

“This agreement sets a new benchmark for clean maritime innovation,” said Nils-Reidar Valle, SVP, Naval & Workboat Sales at Kongsberg Maritime. The VoltRA series combines advanced propulsion with robust performance, reflecting Med Marine’s commitment to sustainable, efficient tug operations.

Yıldız Bozkurt Ozcan, GM of Med Marine, added: “Partnering with Kongsberg allows us to integrate world-class propulsion and deck machinery, driving our vision of a more electric and environmentally responsible tug fleet.”
