Lloyd’s Register (LR) has signed an MoU with Qatar Free Zone–based Jinan Shipyard to collaborate on vessel development, classification, inspection, and certification, covering yachts, tugs, and other marine assets.

The partnership aims to raise shipbuilding standards across the GCC by strengthening safety, quality, and sustainability. Under the agreement, Jinan Shipyard will build and repair vessels in line with LR classification requirements, while LR will provide surveyors, technical guidance, and certification following inspections.

LR leaders highlighted the agreement as a major step toward more efficient and sustainable shipbuilding in Qatar and the wider Gulf region. Jinan Shipyard’s chairman said the partnership reinforces the company’s ambition to set new benchmarks for maritime excellence using its advanced Qatar Free Zone facilities.

A joint steering committee will oversee implementation. The MoU runs through December 2026, with an option to renew.
