Conbulk, the Greek non-operating owner known for its focus on secondhand tonnage, has placed an order for two 5,000 TEU container vessels at Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding. The move marks a notable expansion of the company’s strategy, as it shifts part of its growth into the newbuild market, according to Dynaliners.
Delivery of the newbuild pair is expected to begin toward the end of 2027, giving the company a longer-term position in the mid-size segment.
The 5,000 TEU class has become increasingly attractive among non-operating owners as carriers continue to seek flexible, fuel-efficient ships suited for regional and secondary long-haul trades. For Conbulk, the order reflects both confidence in long-term charter demand and a desire to diversify its asset portfolio with modern, eco-efficient designs.
