Bureau Veritas (BV) has signed a Declaration of Cooperation to accelerate nuclear technologies for maritime applications. The agreement was made with the New Energies Coalition and more than 30 European companies at the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris.
The declaration promotes a European initiative to develop safe, sustainable, and low-carbon solutions for the maritime sector. It emphasizes the role of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as reliable energy sources for ships and ports.
Signatories committed to collaboration across industry, research, finance, and regulatory communities. They will address technical and regulatory challenges and explore pilot projects to test nuclear-powered solutions. The initiative also highlights the importance of transparent communication to build public trust in nuclear safety.
The partners called for a robust European ecosystem, stronger international cooperation with the IAEA and IMO, regulatory clarity, and equitable access to climate finance. Progress will be reviewed annually to ensure alignment with global climate and energy goals.
