Greek dry bulk heavyweight Star Bulk Carriers has reportedly joined the latest wave of Greek bulk carrier ordering activity in China, signing up for up to six kamsarmaxes at Hengli Shipbuilding.
Newbuilding sources in Greece have tied the Nasdaq-listed Athens-based company to a deal for four firm and two optional scrubber-fitted 82,000 dwt vessels with delivery expected in 2026 and 2027.
Brokers estimate the price per ship to be between $36m and $38m, in line with recent contracts placed by fellow Greek owner Efnav.
The Petros Pappas-led company already has five kamsarmaxes confirmed on order at CMI Qingdao Shipyard for 2026 delivery.
The company, which controls over 140 bulkers, has mostly been active on the selling side this year, disposing of more than 10 supramaxes and a pair of 2006-built kamsarmaxes, as it continues to reshape its fleet profile.
Greek owners have dominated the kamsarmax newbuilding market in 2025, with Hengli Shipbuilding emerging as a leading yard for fresh orders. Efnav, led by Filippos Efstathiou, recently signed for six vessels, following Thanasis Martinos’ Eastmed, which ordered four ships, while Dimitris Procopiou-led Centrofin Management has expanded its Hengli orderbook to eight vessels.
