Cargo throughput at Klaipėda Port rose 11% in the first nine months of 2025, reaching 28.7 million tons. Container cargo and ro-ro traffic drove the growth, alongside significant increases in LNG and construction materials.

“Cargo volumes reflect Lithuania’s economic activity, energy independence, and major projects,” said Algis Latakas, CEO. “September marked our strongest month, keeping Klaipėda the leading port in the Baltics with a 41% market share.” Container cargo jumped 31% to 9.6 million tons.

LNG and construction materials each grew 23%, totaling 1.7 million tons, driven by the FSRU Independence and national infrastructure projects. Ro-ro volumes rose 6% to 5 million tons, while oil products grew 2% to nearly 3 million tons.

Passenger traffic increased 8%, with 26,395 more arrivals and departures, and cruise passengers were up 12%. The port also repaired 52 ships and built 2 new vessels during this period.

Some cargo categories fell: scrap metal (-18%), wood (-16%), fertilizers (-13%), and grain (-10%) due to geopolitical factors and domestic production trends. Most wood exports went to Scandinavia, and fertilizer flows shifted to local producers.

Despite these declines, Klaipėda maintains its leading position in the Baltic, ahead of Riga (17.5%), Tallinn (14.6%), Ventspils (9%), and Liepaja (7%).
