Wärtsilä will supply power generation equipment for the Oko West Gold Project, a new gold mine in northwest Guyana operated by GMIN Ventures Guyana Inc., a subsidiary of Canada’s G Mining Ventures. The order was booked in Q3 2025.
The 56MW power plant will run on six Wärtsilä 32 engines, providing reliable energy for continuous mining operations in the region’s demanding tropical environment. Wärtsilä’s engines were selected for their proven efficiency and ability to perform under high heat and limited water conditions.
“Wärtsilä’s proven engine technology is designed for high ambient temperatures and limited water supplies, making it ideal for remote mining sites,” said Tganni Louisy, Project Sales Director, Wärtsilä Energy. “We’re proud to support another mining project with reliable power solutions.”
The plant will support production stability and create around 1,500 local jobs. GMining Services, sister company to G Mining Ventures, will act as project consultant. The facility is expected to be fully operational by the second half of 2027.
