TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. has delivered TEN-OH, Japan’s first hydrogen dual-fuel tugboat, on 15 October 2025 at its Fukuyama factory in Hiroshima.

The vessel is powered by a BEH2YDRO hydrogen dual-fuel internal combustion engine and a large-capacity high-pressure hydrogen storage system, supplied by JPNH2YDRO — a joint venture between TSUNEISHI Group and CMB.TECH.

Developed under The Nippon Foundation’s “Zero Emission Ships Project,” TEN-OH aims to advance carbon-neutral shipping. The tugboat uses twin 12-cylinder hydrogen-blended engines (4,400 horsepower class) and stores about 250kg of hydrogen. It matches the performance of conventional tugboats while significantly reducing CO₂ emissions. If the hydrogen system fails, it can safely operate on marine fuel alone.

President & Executive Officer Mr. Sachio Okumura said, “It is a great honour to deliver Japan’s first hydrogen dual-fuelled tugboat. Building on this milestone, we will continue developing next-generation fuel vessels, including methanol and LNG-powered ships, to drive innovation and support a sustainable maritime future.”

Draft: 4.2m

Gross Tonnage: <300

Main Engine: BEH2YDRO Twin 12-cylinder hydrogen dual-fuel ICE (4,400 HP class)
