Wärtsilä launches GEMS Pulse to optimise battery storage revenue

Technology group Wärtsilä has launched GEMS Pulse, a predictive analytics software designed to help energy storage asset owners optimise performance, uptime, and revenue. The platform turns complex battery and operational data into actionable insights, supporting smarter decisions across the system lifecycle.

Batteries produce thousands of data points every second, but even small measurement errors in state of charge, state of health, and cell imbalance can result in millions of dollars in lost revenue over a project’s lifetime. GEMS Pulse addresses this by providing precise, real-time measurements and predictive intelligence.

“GEMS Pulse reduces risk and strengthens the long-term economics of clean energy,” said Luke Witmer, VP of Energy Storage Software Engineering at Wärtsilä. “It gives customers real-time visibility so they can run their assets with confidence and speed.”

The software continuously monitors batteries for anomalies, helping operators detect issues before they impact availability. It also provides forecasting tools, performance tracking against guarantees, and scenario simulation to optimise dispatch strategies while protecting long-term system health

“We built GEMS Pulse to solve today’s challenges: maximising asset availability, capacity, and revenue,” said Ruchira Shah, General Manager of Software Product Management for Energy Storage. “It empowers customers to access and understand their data—a competitive edge in a fast-changing energy market.”

Already in use by Wärtsilä’s energy performance services team, GEMS Pulse has optimised over 9 GWh of battery capacity, helping customers reclaim unused capacity, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency.

The platform combines AI-driven analytics, real-time control, and insights from millions of operating batteriesworldwide, setting a new standard for energy storage optimisation.
