Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) has approved the acquisition of three secondhand tankers for about $193m, as part of its drive to double the national fleet to 30 vessels by 2026.
Two aframaxes, Lorex and Nafsika, are costing $74.5m each while the Stavenger Poseidon, an MR2 tanker, has been bought for $44.15m with all three ships set to deliver by December.
The corporation has also launched procurement for 12 additional tankers.
“PNSC has accelerated its efforts to acquire new vessels to support Pakistan’s maritime growth and reduce dependence on foreign shipping,” the Ministry of Maritime Affairs stated in an update.
