Engineering solutions companies SIA “Belss” and SIA “Anytec Productions, have developed a special multifunctional cutter designed for port service operations in the port of Riga.

This represents the first project of its kind implemented in Latvia, and it was officially commissioned this week to serve the Port of Salacgrīva.

The initiative marks a significant milestone in Latvian shipbuilding, demonstrating that it is possible to design and manufacture technologically advanced, high value-added operational vessels in Riga—vessels that can successfully compete globally in terms of technology, quality, and cost.

The new closed-hull aluminum boat measures 9.5 meters in length and 2.96 meters in width, with a one-ton load capacity, designed to accommodate up to six people.

Its functionality has been specifically developed for a wide range of port operations both within the port’s water area and on shore. These include maintaining navigational aids, conducting search and rescue missions, and ensuring port security.

This boat represents a significant advancement over previous models. All components have been reinforced and adapted for reliable use in heavy rain, strong winds, and other adverse weather conditions.

The bow is specially strengthened to allow safe operation in light ice, extending the vessel’s year-round usability. Additionally, the boat is equipped with a hydraulic manipulator, enabling efficient navigational aid maintenance within the port.

Kaspars Ziediņš, Board Member of SIA “Belss”, emphasized that this represents not only an important investment in the Port of Salacgrīva’s day-to-day work, but also a unique opportunity to prove that it is possible to create high added value and technologically complex products in Latvia that can compete with foreign production.

The boat is equipped with the latest Simrad navigation equipment, engine control system, and integrated firefighting system.

It features the latest and most powerful Simrad echo sounder, ensuring high accuracy and reliability.

Additionally, the vessel boasts a modern US-made integrated depth measurement device with data processing software, providing detailed water area measurements and mapping.

The boat’s hull is treated with SIA “Anytec Productions’” patented nano-passivation M400 coating, which provides effective environmental impact protection and significantly extends the vessel’s service life.

Powered by a robust 400-horsepower engine, the boat achieved a top speed of 40 knots (approximately 75 km/h) during testing an impressive performance for a vessel of its class.
