Arkas is set to expand its fleet with a US$360 million investment in six new-generation eco-design container vessels, bringing its total number of boxships to 55 and increasing its TEU capacity to 112,230.

This expansion is supported by a long-term loan agreement secured with CIMC Financial Leasing, allowing Arkas to both modernize and grow its fleet. The vessels, slated for delivery in 2028, are part of a partnership agreement signed by Arkas, China Shipbuilding Trading Co, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard, and CIMC Financial Leasing.

As Türkiye’s largest container vessel fleet operator and one of the top 33 shipowners globally, Arkas has initiated the acquisition of these six vessels from China’s CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard, a company recognized for its high production standards.

Furthermore, each of the vessels will have a capacity of 4,300 TEUs, making them the largest in Arkas’ fleet.

The signing ceremony for this significant investment took place in Izmir, Türkiye attended by key figures including Lucien Arkas, Chairman of Arkas Holding, Bernard Arkas, Vice President of Arkas Holding, Diane Arkas Gocmez, Vice President of Arkas Holding, and Ibrahim Kontaytekin, Vice President of Arkas Maritime Merchant Fleet Group, along with other top executives from Arkas and its partners China Shipbuilding Trading Co, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard, CIMC Financial Leasing, and MB Shipbrokers.

The vessels, scheduled for delivery in February, April, June, August, October, and December 2028, will be operated by Arkas Line. These next-generation eco-design ships will provide high capacity while aligning with Arkas’ sustainability goals by lowering carbon emissions, thanks to their advanced fuel performance monitoring systems.

“Due to the nature of our work, we meet with many companies of different scales, in different geographies, and with different visions. However, the collaboration we’ve established here today has become one of the most enjoyable and cherished for us. Just like us, it’s truly valuable when not just two, but three, and maybe even four companies come together to sign such a significant agreement,” stated Han Jianbing, Deputy General Manager of Wenchong Yard Delegation.
