According to Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA), Japan’s six largest ports handled 1.16 million TEUs of oceangoing containers in July, a 0.4% year-on-year drop. This was their first decline in eight months, according to preliminary data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Exports edged up 0.3% to 574,834 TEUs, while imports slipped 1.1% to 587,683 TEUs.

Tokyo moved 346,641 TEUs, down 0.1%. Exports fell 1.4% to 154,304 TEUs, while imports rose 1% to 192,337 TEUs.

Kawasaki surged 22.7% to 7,466 TEUs. Exports jumped 41.3% to 3,844 TEUs, and imports grew 7.6% to 3,622 TEUs.

Yokohama handled 227,280 TEUs, down 4.6%. Exports slipped 2% to 123,581 TEUs, and imports dropped 7.5% to 103,699 TEUs.

Nagoya recorded 223,406 TEUs, up 2%. Exports increased 3.7% to 116,418 TEUs, and imports inched up 0.2% to 106,988 TEUs.

Osaka processed 184,378 TEUs, up 5.9%. Exports rose 6.6% to 83,577 TEUs, and imports advanced 5.3% to 100,801 TEUs.

Kobe fell 5.2% to 173,346 TEUs. Exports declined 3.9% to 93,110 TEUs, and imports slipped 6.7% to 80,236 TEUs.
