Port Houston demonstrated continued expansion in August following exceptional July performance.
Total tonnage across Port Houston’s public terminals increased 5% year-to-date through August, indicating steady growth across multiple cargo sectors.
Following a record July, the Port’s container terminals processed 370,430 TEUs in August, representing a 1% increase from the corresponding month last year. Year-to-date container volumes approached 3 million TEUs, specifically 2,932,936 TEUs, positioning Port Houston’s container volumes 5% above 2024 levels.
Port Houston remains attentive as Houston’s volumes maintained stability and increased across numerous cargo categories.
In August, loaded import containers at Port Houston rose 4% year-over-year, while loaded export containers increased 5%, driven by resins that continue anchoring Port Houston’s export market.
General cargo volumes increased 10% year-to-date through August.
Charlie Jenkins, CEO at Port Houston stated that the volumes are maintaining strength this year, and there is an otimism about upcoming months.
Throughout the Houston Ship Channel, encompassing both eight public terminals and over 200 private facilities, 692 deep draft vessel calls occurred in August, bringing the year-to-date total to 5,415 arrivals.
In October, Port Houston will again serve as host port for Breakbulk Americas, celebrating its 35th anniversary.
The following month, Port Houston will welcome Fleet Week Houston, commemorating the US Navy’s 250th anniversary with ships, demonstrations, and community events along the Channel.
