A leading container terminal in the Port of Cartagena, Colombia, has ordered 25 new Konecranes Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes (RTGs) and retrofits for 10 existing RTGs to enable supervised operations. The order, signed in Q3 2025, will see deliveries in five batches, starting Q4 2026 and completing in Q1 2028.
This latest order builds on an ongoing modernization program. Konecranes is also retrofitting 37 third-party RTGs with remote supervision technology. The terminal already operates Konecranes Straddle Carriers and Reach Stackers, creating a unified, high-performance setup designed to handle peak container flows with minimal interruptions.
The new RTGs feature advanced systems for supervised stacking, truck lane operations, and enhanced safety controls, allowing gantry moves with limited operator input. They will integrate with the terminal’s IT and Operational Technology infrastructure, including yard controls and remote operating stations.
Heikki Kreku, Director RTG at Konecranes, said, “Our RTG technology offers high productivity and proven reliability, supporting round-the-clock operations that terminals depend on.”
The Cartagena terminal is recognized globally for efficiency, advanced technology, and its ability to handle large vessels, according to the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence’s 2023 Container Port Performance Index.
